Combating the threat of terrorism
Costa Blanca delegates at European tourist resorts security summit
KEEPING populations safe from the threat of terrorism is a major challenge and a delegation from the Costa Blanca has joined a discussion on how to protect tourist towns.
Jávea major José Chulvi has led colleagues to a conference in Nice in France to take part in European Security Week; an event paid for by the European Union’s Internal Security Fund Police.
The event is part of the EU’s PACTESUR initiative - Protect Allied Cities against Terrorism in Securing Urban Areas. Jávea is a founder member, selected with 11 other communities such as Nice, Liege and Turin.
The object of the project is to share experiences and protocols to keep up to date and find an effective formula to ensure people’s safety 'a basic special requirement'.
And the mayor and councillor for security Pepa Gisbert are taking part in the first part of the seminar, which aims to build a network of support and collaboration between member towns for any contingency, including a terror attack.
Jávea’s local police are also attending with Chief Inspector José Antonio Monfort and colleague Police Officer Fernando Gaona taking part in discussions on the difficulties faced by emergency services to communicate with residents during an incident and to select what type of platforms are both suitable and useful during a crisis.
During the week, there will also be police tactical exercises, group work, presentations and conferences with international experts.
Jávea wanted to take part to combat any threat through prevention and training as well as the local police wishing to be aware of any new threats and challenges.
