U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada

-

On October 8 U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada played their latest game for the year on the shorter course, Poniente, at Villaitana near Benidorm. Having not played this course for over a year I was delighted to see the improvements in the fairways and greens. It's now possible to play from the softer ground, not that longer 2nd shots are often required on this short but challenging course. For those who haven't been, there are many dangers from the tees. Many a shot can disappear into a barranca, the ball never to be seen again. Holes 8,9,13 and 14 are particularly difficult for the men. It is fortunate we have some good lady players in our Society!

For an October day the temperature was perfect and with very light winds there were no excuses for poor play. We are so lucky to be able to turn up and not think about rain and cold and Brexit was not mentioned once during our round!

The format for the day was Texas Scramble with 5 Teams of four players each. We don't play this type of game very often but it seemed popular and the scores reflected the enjoyment. Most Teams seemed in good humour in the bar afterwards. However, I must say again the prices for coffee and beer are some of the highest in the Costa Blanca

The results:

1st Team 2 with a net score of 46.9, Keith Worrall, Paul Westerman, Tricia Groves and Ian Pearce

2nd Team 4 with a net score of 50.4, Brian Russell, Robin Woods, Keith Yeulett and Chris Witton

Nearest the Pin winner Tricia Groves and Phil Chaney (maybe his last game for the Society).

The Founder's Cup was presented to Tricia Groves - a very good day for her. See you later in the year.

Congratulations to all our winners.

Our next game is at La Galiana on October 24. There are still places available.

To play for the society you first need to be a member of the U3A Moraira/Teulada which meets on the first Monday of every month at the Salóns G.L, Avenida del Mediterráneo 32, Teulada at 10:30 All new members welcome whatever you’re standard of golf.
