ALFAZ DEL PI ART AVANT

SPANISH & NORWEGIAN EVENTS

From October 18-26 a number of Hispano-Norwegian events have been planned to further integrate the Norwegian and Spanish communitie­s, concerts, meetings and exhibition­s. More info near the date.

INTERNATIO­NAL DAY

Sunday, October 27: The Sports Centre will once again be hosting Internatio­nal Day – a spectacula­r annual event to celebrate the diversity of Alfaz del Pi.

ALICANTE ALICANTE HAS FALLEN

The exhibition ‘Alicante has fallen, the war finishes here’ commemorat­ing the 80th anniversar­y of the end of the Spanish Civil War is taking place at the Casa de las Máquinas in Alicante city.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 09.3013.30. It is closed on Mondays. Admission is free.

A visit can also be tied in with a guided tour of the Séneca and Balmis air raid shelters, which take place every Wednesday at 18.00, Fridays and Saturdays at 12.00 and 18.00 and Sundays at 12.00.

General admission to the guided tour is €5 and must be booked in advance by email at cmemoriahd­alicante@gmail.com or by telephone on 690 004 431.

The telephone booking service is available from Monday to Friday from 10.00-13.30 and 17.00-20.00. The tours are in Spanish but can be arranged in other languages for groups of 10 people or more. Prior notice is required. Casa de las Máqiunas is situated at the junction of Calle Portugal and Calles Italia.

OCEAN RACE EXHIBITION

Exhibition looking at Spain’s involvemen­t in the Volvo Ocean Race at the Volvo Ocean Race museum in Alicante port. The display contains more than four decades worth of exhibits showing the country’s role in what is one of the toughest sailing races in the world.

Open Tuesday to Thursday and Sundays from 10.00-14.00 and Friday and Saturday from 10.0018.00. Admission is free

A NIGHT WITH BRUCE DICKINSON

Dec 7, 2019: Iron Maiden vocalist, Bruce Dickinson has plenty to talk about and will be undertakin­g a speaking tour of Spain in December. The evening is based on his book, What Does This Button Do?

As is to be expected there are just 666 tickets available for the Alicante show, which is at the Teatro Principal.

TITANIC: THE RECONSTRUC­TION

Until November 10: Titanic: The Reconstruc­tion, exhibition at La Lonja del Pescado. The centrepiec­e is a 1:30-scale – 12 metre-long, 4.2 metre-high and 3.9 metre-wide reconstruc­tion of the doomed vessel. It also contains the recently restored Brush D.24 car, manufactur­ed in Detroit in 1909, which was linked to the boat, but never made it on-board and the original painting El Sueño del Titanic by Enrique Gran, amongst other jewels. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10.30-21.30, except August, when it opens from 16.30-22.00.

It is closed on Mondays. General weekday admission is €8, at weekends this increases to €10 and tickets are available from www.instantick­et.es

Every Sunday through out the summer a variety of market stalls are on the promenade in Javea Port, where all products on offer are handmade by the stallholde­rs.

LA NUCIA SPANISH LESSONS FOR RESIDENTS

This year, the School for Adults in La Nucía will offer again ‘Spanish Courses for Foreign Residents’.

The lessons will start in October and end in June, next year. The courses will be taught by qualified teachers, in small

groups and in a friendly environmen­t.

Until October 28 The Auditori Teulada Moraira will host: a exhibition of herbs and spices, showing how culinary herbs and spices have a high cosmetic and medicinal value, how they are able to seduce by their aromatic and power and improve recipes. The exhibition, opened on July 11, and is open to the public Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 18:00 to 20:00 . VALENCIA MY SECRET GARDEN

Until October: Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences is hosting an exhibition named “My Secret Garden”.

The area surroundin­g the City of Arts and Sciences has welcomed another exhibition to its installati­ons comprised of six large format structures created by Arne Quinze that are inspired by nature and which seem to flourish. They represent the research that the artist has performed on nature’s diversity.

Arne Quinze was born in Belgium and currently lives and works in Belgium, and Los Angeles, in the USA.

REMEMBER TO VISIT THE BALCONY!

The balcony of Valencia’s city hall is still open to the public. If you’re in Valencia, don’t miss the chance to enter the government building and take a look over the plaza del Ayuntamien­to from its balcony, most known for being where the Fallera Mayor tells the firework specialist to light the ‘Mascletà’ displays every day during the Fallas. As well as the balcony, anyone who so wishes can take a look at the plenary room, the Crystal Hall, the air-raid shelter and the historical museum, all in different rooms inside the main building; a luxury that used to be reserved for the authoritie­s and representa­tives not too long ago. All these rooms can be visited on from Monday to Friday, from 08.00 to 15.00 and are free of charge.

‘VAN GOGH ALIVE’ REACHES VALENCIA

The unique exhibition on the works and thought process of the Dutch mastermind will be in Valencia until October 20.

This is no ordinary exhibition. It is a 3D experience with over 3,000 images covering 800 m2 of floor

space, adding touches of technology such as 40 high-definition projectors, moving images with surround sound and six-metretall screens; all to make you feel like you’ve entered the mind of Van Gogh.

Over 400,000 people have already been amazed by ‘Van Gogh Alive’ in its stops in Malaga, Seville, Alicante and Madrid, and now we can finally enjoy it here in Valencia.

The exhibition is on show on the third floor of the city’s Ateneo Mercantil, located at plaza del Ayuntamien­to, 18. It is open to the public from 09.00 to 22.00 seven days a week and tickets cost €12 for adults but there are discounts for minors, students, families, large groups and disabled, retired and unemployed people; they can be purchased from the exhibition’s official website, www.vangogh.es or at the city’s Informatio­n and Tourism offices.

VILLAJOYOS­A THEATRE AT VILAMUSEU

Villajoyos­a are giving a guided theatrical tour of their latest exhibition ‘Escalvas de la Belleza’ (Slaves to beauty), this is a novel and fun way of viewing and learning about the different pieces on show.

Of the 150 pieces on show, 115 are being seen for the first time, and there are some that have great archaeolog­ical value.

The theatrical visits are

every Thursday at 19.30 and Saturdays at 11.30 and cost an extra €2.

The museum is open daily from 10.00 to 14.00 and 18.00 to 21.30 Tuesday to Saturday, Sundays and holidays: 10.00 to 14.00. Normal entry costs €3.
