Pedestrianisation project continues in Santa Pola
Restrictions on use of vehicles on seven streets in the centre of Santa Pola have been increased at weekends, now that the summer is over and there are fewer people in the area around the Glorieta, announced the town hall. On Fridays and Saturdays, as well as the eve of public holidays, vehicles will only be allowed from 06.00 until 17.00, which is an hour longer than during the summer, and on Sundays and public holidays there roads will be completely closed to traffic and therefore parking will also be prohibited.
The affected streets are: the first stretch of Calle de Elche and Calles del Muelle, Cervantes, Almirante Antequera, María López, Deán Llópez and Hernán Cortés. Access and parking are completely unrestricted from midnight on Sunday until midnight on Thursday.
All these recent changes are part of the traffic reorganisation plan of the new Partido Popular (PP) council in order to improve access for people to small businesses and residents to their homes on these streets instead of the total pedestrianisation that was implemented by the previous coalition council in 2017.
Council workers put up new signs for drivers last week and drivers and pedestrians were advised to take extra care during the first few days of the new system.
All information will be posted on its official social media accounts and any questions should be directed to the local police, they stated.
