Lions celebrate silver jubilee
Members of the Teulada Moraira Lions Club and guests celebrated a quarter of a century of community service last Friday Night.
Moraira yacht club hosted the association’s “sparkling” 25th annual Charter Night dinner and dance with over 70 Lions and guests enjoying the event.
The club’s motto is ‘we serve’: and members are proud of 25 years of achievements and support of good causes in the local community and further afield.
The formal evening was attended by local dignitaries and guests including Rosálina Vila Vallés, mayor of Teulada Moraira
and who an honorary member of the club; councillors Isabel Garrido and María José Ivars from Benitachell town hall, and Colonel “Max” Maxwell MBE with his partner Jan Adams–Bareham.
Lions were also delighted to have Candy Wright MBE, President of HELP of DAMA and Sylvia Tatnell BEM, President of the Teulada Alzheimer’s Association (AFA), present at the party.
A cava reception was followed by lady guests being presented bouquets of flowers by the lady Lions.
Grace was given by Lion Andy Dawson, and an enjoyable dinner followed. Toasts to their Majesties King Felipé VI of Spain and Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Northern Ireland were made by Lions Philip Butterworth and Lion Peter Johnson respectively. A toast to absent friends was given by Lion Brian Clarke and the toast to our guests by Lion David Harmer.
Current Lions President, Dr Nico Dekkers, gave a speech and toasted
Lions Club International while the club’s longest serving Lion, Marjetta Forselles, gave a speech and toast to the club. Colonel Max Maxwell gave a very eloquent speech on behalf of the guests and the formal part of the evening was followed by dancing to the music of Chill Factor.
Peter Johnson said afterwards: “The evening proved a great success and was staged in a very lovely setting. The club can be justifiably proud of its achievements serving the communities of Teulada, Moraira and Benitachell for the past 25 years - as well as far reaching into the Marina Alta and indeed to helping deserving causes worldwide”.
