Denia Tapas Trail: Dine out and win prizes

- By Samantha Kett

FILL your boots on gourmet dishes for the price of a couple of coffees each on Dénia's annual Tapas Trail – running until November 17, you can get a bite to eat with a glass of wine, beer or Martini in participating restaurants for just €3 each.

Collect your 'tapas passport' from the first restaurant or from the tourist office, and each eatery will stamp it for you. Once you have stamps from a minimum of 15 premises, you'll be entered automatically into a prize draw where you can win meals for two at the prizewinning restaurants, a night for two with dinner and breakfast at Las Rotas Hotel, a gourmet local produce hamper, and for those who have acquired stamps from all 40 eateries via the App 'Rutappa', an additional prize is up for grabs of a voucher to spend in Ondara's El Portal de la Marina shopping centre for €500.

You can also vote for your favourite restaurants, and the winner and second-placed premises will get a commemorative plaque from the local directory GuíaME, plus a meal at Restaurante Mena, €300 in cash and a personalised terrace heater from Fuego Difusión as first prize and a night at the Font d'Alcalà Hotel with dinner and breakfast as second prize.

A panel of judges from the hotel and catering traders' association AEHTMA will decide the best tapa of them all and give a commemorative plaque and a gourmet dining experience to the winning restaurateurs, and Dénia tourist office will give a plaque to the eatery offering the best tapa made from locally-produced ingredients.

Each participating restaurant offers one set tapa, a reduced-size version of one of its star dishes.

Those containing meat are served up by 22 restaurants Bavaria Braü, Black Market BBQ, Ca Tona, Canela Cafetería, El Comercio, El Convent, El Mosset, Entrearomas, Havannah, La Cuina de Pepa, La Latería, La Sabrosa Taquería, La Traviesa, Lizarrán, Més que Tapes, Movida Dénia, Mr. Fisher, Pointer, Tasca Eulalia, The Railway Tavern, Toma Jamón, and Txoko Bar.

Fish and seafood are offered by 18 restaurants - Bodegas Galiana, Bonanotte, Casa Benjamín, Di Vino, El Cantó, El Jamonal de Ramonet, El Marino Port, El Rincón de Montava, La Cova Tallà, La Cuarentena, La Glorieta, La Mar de Chula, La Xerna del Mar, Sushiber, Taberna Senieta, Tasca La Carme, Tasca Les Monges, and Tempura Bar & Grill.

Unfortunately, the tapas trail is only suitable for carnivores or pescatarians, as there are no strict vegetarian or vegan options.
