Scary Halloween in Denia
Tunnel of Terror and scary movies for Hallowe'en chills in Dénia
SCARY stuff is happening in Dénia this weekend – and if you find yourself in the passageway beneath the castle, be prepared for sudden encounters with ghosts, ghouls, poltergeists and other characters you wouldn't normally want to run into on a dark night.
The 'Tunnel of Terror' is back, and from 22.00 to the Witching Hour you can take a spooky tour: from the town hall square through the walkway under the Moorish fortress, via the youth centre as far as the Ronda de les Muralles car park, you'll meet everything from skeletons to Frankenstein's monsters, vampires and phantoms, probably with a few giant cobwebs en route (it may or may not be suitable for arachnophobics, so you'd best check before setting off if you identify as one of these unfortunate cases).
Only grown-ups and kids aged 14 and over are allowed through, but for the under14s, a separate and slightly less panicinducing version runs from 17.00 to 19.30.
All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.
To get you ready for Hallowe'en, a Frightening
Film Festival at the youth centre in the appropriatelynamed Classroom 0 – what used to be the café – will have you on the edge of your seat, although the organisers cannot guarantee sofas to hide behind and take no responsibility for weird dreams afterwards.
Today (Friday, October 25) and tomorrow (Saturday, October 26), the films start at 20.30, with Escape Room tonight (carries a 12 certificate) and Nosotros ('Us') on Saturday night (minimum age 16).
Sunday's showing is at 11.00, with Hotel Transylvania 3, and is suitable for all ages.
It wouldn't be spine-chilling enough for a decent Hallowe'en experience without the eerie background music – enter top regional pianist Marta Espinós, the hottest name on the classical music scene, joined by narrator Fernando Palacios for a melodic experience that will deprive you of sleep. Next Friday (November 1), which is All Saints' Day or 'Day of the Dead', the Piano en Penumbra ('Piano in the Gloom') recital will create the atmosphere with appropriate works by Bach, virtuoso whizz-kid Liszt, Mussorgski, Mompou, Granados, Norway's 'troll music' composer Edvard Grieg, and dramatic Spanish master Manuel de Falla.
Tune in at the Social Centre from 20.30 – suitable for anyone aged 10 or over, and entrance is free.
