Eddie's Final Whistle

- By Eddie Cagigao

Match day 9 – October 20 Orihuela CF 1 – 1 FC Andorra Orihuela, who were forced to play this “home” game at Crevillente as their pitch was being re-seeded after the recent storm, did well to hold the league leaders, FC Andorra, to a draw and in doing so, knock them off the top of the table. This was the proverbial game of two half’s with the home side the better in the first 45 whilst Andorra were better in the second half.

After a goalless first half, it was Andorra who opened the scoring after 71 minutes before Orihuela scored a deserved equaliser on 85 minutes.

The draw for Orihuela was somewhat bitter sweet as they stay in the relegation zone (18th) position with just seven points having won just once this season

Villarreal CF B 1 – 3 Lleida Esportiu TCF

We have new leaders in this Group after Andorra were held at Orihuela and Villarreal B were well beaten at home by the new league leaders, Lleida Esportiu.

The visitors proved they are a very good side and took the lead with a penalty in the 8th minute before the home side equalised on 35 minutes although that only lasted five minutes as Lleida scored again to go in 1-2 up at the break. The second half was a more even affair but the visitors scored a third on 61 minutes to kill off the game and give Lleida the top position after the weekend round of matches. Lleida are top with 20 points, two more points that second placed FC Andorra.

This defeat drops Villarreal B to joint third position with 15 points, with CD Castellon and CE Sabadell FC.

AE Prat 0 – 1 CD Castellon

CD Castellon are having a fantastic season to date and after winning away at AE Prat in Barcelona, they are up to joint third position with 15 points, having won four and drawn five of their first nine matches as they remain the only unbeaten side in this group.

Javi Serra, in the 35th minute of the first half, scored the only goal of the game in a match which saw the home side push Castellon all the way.

SD Ejea 2 – 0 Valencia CF Mestalla

Valencia Mestalla fell to their third defeat of the season at SD Ejea, where the home side took all the points after a blistering first 15 minutes where they scored both their goals, in the 2nd and 15th minutes of the first half.

This latest defeat for the Valencia CF reserve side, leaves them in 16th position with eight points, just one point outside the automatic relegation places whilst SD Ejea are having an excellent start to the season where they have lost just once this season. They are in seventh position with 14 points and just three points outside the Play Off places.

Gimnastic Tarragona 2 – 1 CF La Nucia

La Nucia, who had a great start to their first ever season at this level, have started to drop down the table and, after this latest defeat – their third of the season – are down to ninth position with 12 points.

An own goal after four minutes gave the home side an early lead and Habran scored a second for the home side on 12 minutes. La Nucia did pull one back from Fernandez on 28 minutes but were unable to score what would have given them a worthy draw.

Hercules CF 3 – 0 CD Ebro

The second win of the season for a Hercules side very much in the relegation zone and although these three points do not lift them out of the bottom four (they are in 17th position with seven points), it does lift their confidence for the forthcoming matches.

Three second half goals, two from Carlos Martinez and another from Borja, gave Hercules a comfortable victory over a CD Ebro who are now in 14th position with 10 points.

Atletico Levante UD 3 – 1 UE Cornella

Two first half goal from Joan gave the home side a decent lead, although that lead was cut back after 45 minutes as the visitors scored through Ahde. But a third goal from Arturo Molina on 57 minutes, gave the home side all three points to leave them sitting in a comfortable mid table (11th) position with 11 points. The defeat for Cornella means they are now in 12th position with 10 points. CF Badalona 0 – 0 UE Olot CE Sabadell FC 3 – 1 RCD Español B
