On October 15 our fifth match of the winter league was fished on section C of the Rio Jucar. This is not a favoured stretch of the river as it generally does not hold as many fish, and those which are there tend to be at either end, so, the draw can be very important.

However, we fish it to test our skills. Eleven members were assembled in bright sunshine with only a light breeze and a temperature of seventeen degrees.

The match began at 10am and in the first hour one or two fish were landed, mainly to the higher numbered pegs, but an odd one elsewhere.

During the morning the only person who was catching more than the odd fish was Jeff Richards on peg 12, one of the favoured pegs. As the day progressed more fish were landed by the higher numbered pegs with only the odd fish along the rest of the stretch, except the middle pegs where no bites were registered at all.

When the match ended at 3pm it was evident that the draw had been all important. As can be seen from the results, the three highest numbered pegs caught a total of 19 fish, the whole of the rest a total of 6 fish, with not a single fish caught in the middle of the section resulting in 4 empty nets.

In total, 24 carp were caught for a total weight of 41.23 kilos.
