Power finish of 60 voices

-

There was a storming finish to the Jalon Valley Help Hallelujah Concert as the 60 voices of all the choirs that had performed during the evening joined together with soloists Giovanna Wallis and cellist Paul Kears for a fantastic rendition of Hallelujah to complete an excellent programme at the Casa de Cultura de El Verger. It was such a pity the standing ovation did not encourage them to sing it again. However it was a most successful evening and Jalon Valley Help raised over €1,200 to help in their continuing provision of care and assistance in Jalon and the surrounding area.

Valley Voices, a mixed friendly choir, started the evening off splendidly well with 5 songs including Dancing Queen and Fields of Gold and they were very well received by the audience of nearly 90.

Paul Kears, cellist, accompanied by Heather Butcher, gave an exemplary rendition of Dvorak’s very entertaining Humouresque in amongst some Tchaikovsky and the enigmatic La Vie En Rose.

Caprice Ladies Choir, like Valley Voices with the musical director Aileen Lightfoot, rounded off their selection and the first half with a most fascinating and really enjoyable version of Bohemian Rhapsody.

The second half started very well with soloist Giovanna Wallis performing 4 songs ranging from the classic Summertime and then continuing and finishing on a high with I dreamed a dream. So there was really something for everyone this evening.

Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir gave their usual excellent performance with five wide ranging types of songs that even included a choral version of When I’m 64 by the Beatles. This was all leading up to the grand finale when all the performers gathered on the stage under the directorship of Aileen Lightfoot for a superb rendition of Hallelujah – a great finish to a super evening.

Elaine Horton, President of Jalon Valley Help, thanked all the performers and the Ajuntement of El Verger for making this such a successful night out for all those that had attended.

The volunteers and the audience were also thanked as the evening just would not have happened without them.

The next Jalon Valley Help event for your diary is the quiz at Awraba on November 14 swiftly followed by the always popular Christmas Bazaar on November 17 in Jalon.
