Calpe U3A get into gear

A busy social week for Calpe U3A Padel group. On October 2 we had a combined padel and badminton dinner at Suvashi restaurant. Thirty-four of us turned up for a great evening. Then, on October 8 we took up the challenge to play Alfas ladies cricket team and only just lost the match on the last ball. A real fun day was had by all followed by a buffet laid on by our hosts.

The badminton group led by Bob Hodge meets on Thursdays at 9.30am to 11.30am. It costs €2 at Calpe Sports Centre.

Padel / Tennis groups meet on Mondays and Wednesdays 9.30am to 11am. Cost is €2. Padel led by David Lodge and the tennis club by Bob Hodge.

Alan Lawton of the table tennis group organised a welcome back paella party for the members of the table tennis group. If any members of the Calpe U3A would like to join our group they would be made very welcome. We play twice a week at the Calpe sports Centre, Tuesday and Fridays 9.30am to 12.00 noon.

Including these sports groups, Calpe U3A has a total of 24 groups that you can join. There is also a choir, cycling group, flower arranging, discussion group, paper craft, writing group, men’s dining, ladies dining and many more. Our membership fee is €10 per year.

Calpe’s U3A next meeting will be its AGM and will be for members only, but it is possible to sign up at the membership desk before the meeting.

It will take place at the Sol Ifach hotel on Thursday, November 21. Doors open at 10am for a meeting time of 11am. The speaker will be Vice -Consul Sara Munsterhje­lm; who will update members on the latest developmen­ts in the Brexit saga and the implicatio­ns for those who have chosen to live and work in Spain.

Volunteers required: The Roundabout Charity' new shop in the heart of Javea is continuing to support several charities but, we are reaching crisis point regarding staffing shortages. Call into the shop on Carrer Joan Fuster, Javea and ask for details. Open Mon - Fri 10am 1.30pm, Also Weds 4pm-7pm.

Javea Bridge Club

Jávea Bridge Club has a diverse internatio­nal membership and during August, we play weekdays Wednesday & Friday at 3pm and Monday, Tuesday & Thursday at 5.30pm. We are located on Avenida de Paris, 2 close to Arenal Beach.
