Orihuela museums reopen their doors
ORIHUELA’S La Muralla and local archaeological museums and the Miguel Hernández house museum and exhibition hall are reopening their doors following the heavy storms that flooded parts of the city in September.
Since the storms many of Orihuela’s cultural sites have been undergoing restoration and repair work to return them to a suitable standard for public visits.
La Muralla museum will be open during its usual visiting times following an operation to clear up after the entry of water, which did not affect the archaeological artefacts.
“Following the repair of the lift, the electric box and reducing the damp in the museum, La Muralla is ready to receive visitors,” said councillor for culture Mar Ezcurra.
The local archaeological museum however, is only in a position to open its main room, which houses La Diablesa sculpture by Nicolás de Bussy. The museum’s San Juan de Dios exhibition hall is still undergoing repairs.
Miguel Hernández exhibition hall is reopening with an exhibition of works by 19 painters dedicated to the Orihuela-born poet, in addition to four drawings – Gallo, Granada, Granadas, and Serpiente – by Hernández himself.
La Muralla museum is situated at
Calle del Río, the local archaeological museum can be found at Calle Hospital, 3 and the Miguel Hernández house museum and exhibition hall is situated at Calle Miguel Hernández, 73.
