Yachting championships in Altea this weekend
The yachting event ‘The Cup of Spain of 420, 2019’ has chosen Altea yacht club as the venue for one of its most important competitions, which will be held this weekend. El Club Nautico de Altea has been designated by the Royal Federation of Spanish Sailing for the cup, which together with the championship of Spain, will define the positions of the national representatives in the European Championships. These will be held in 2020.
A total of 186 sailors from all over Spain will take part. Each region has a number of places assigned to the race, to which only the best sailors have access. This year, fifteen regional federations will take part. During the event, Altea Yacht Club, together with the sponsors, Saling Cuack, have organised a photographic challenge on Instagram. On each race day a subject will be announced, and all sailors can participate by uploading their best photo to Instagram through the hashtag #challenger420Altea. Prizes will be awarded for the best photographs uploaded to the social network.
A total of six boats and 12 sailors from the Altea Yacht Club will be responsible for representing Altea in these nationals.
Today Thursday, October 31 at 19.30. the presentation of the Cup will take place on the outdoor terrace of the social building of the Altea Yacht Club. The event will be attended by the mayor of Altea, Jaume Llinares, the councillor for sports, Pere Barber and the president of the Altea Yacht Club, José Román Zurutuza.
During the afternoon, the trophy winner will be announced, which will be kept totally secret until the presentation ceremony.
The renowned painter from Altea, Tachi, will present a work at the event, which is a large-scale painting measuring two metres by one metre. Prints of his art will be awarded to the top three winners in each category.
The presentation will end with a buffet dinner for all attendees offered by the restaurant of the Altea Yacht Club, Bon Vent.
The races will begin this Friday, November 1 with the first signal at 12.00 and will continue on Saturday and Sunday morning. A maximum of nine races are scheduled, in order that the best 420 specialists from Spain are measured in the race course.
