Eddie's Final Whistle

- By Eddie Cagigao

2nd B Division, Group 3

Match day 10 –October 27 CD Castellon 1 – 2 Villarreal CF B

There is a fierce rivalry between these two clubs, their close proximity added to the meteoric rise of Villarreal which has made them the “second” club in the Valencia Community (something that Castellon always considered that they were historically). The rivalry has, if anything, increased over the past few years as CD Castellon dropped down the leagues and are now, seemingly, on their way back up.

All of the above added to make this game live up to its “derby” reputation and ended up with 12 yellow cards, three players sent off, a win for the visitors and, subsequently, an appeal to the Spanish FA from Castellon against the result standing. The game was won by Villarreal who opened the scoring after 26 minutes before Castellon levelled after 65 minutes before the visitors (two players sent off at the time), scored the winner on 80 minutes before having a third player red carded. After the match, the Castellon board agreed to appeal against the result as they feel that Villarreal only had six players registered to their reserve side and the rest were youth or C team players, something not allowed under Spanish FA rules. A decision has yet to be made by the Spanish FA so at this moment in time, the points go to Villarreal who, after this win, climb back into second position with 20 points, just one point behind league leaders, Lleida Esportiu. The defeat for CD Castellon means they drop down to sixth position with 17 points although that could all change if they win their appealValencia CF Mestalla 1 – 2 AE Prat

It is getting worrying for the Valencia reserves and more so after this terrible home defeat against an AE Prat side who started the day at the bottom of the league table. It would not be a surprise if the Mestalla manager was replaced in the next few days as they sit fourth from bottom (17th position) and in the relegation zone with just eight points from their ten matches played having won just once this season.

The visitors opened the scoring just before half time and doubled their lead on 60 minutes before Mestalla pulled one back on 67 minutes. Despite creating a number of chances, the home side were unable to take anything from this game.

CD Ebro 2 – 0 Orihuela CF

A goal in each half gave the home side all three points from this game which leaves Orihuela one place off the bottom of the table (19th) with just seven points from their ten matches played. Orihuela, promoted via the play offs´ at the end of last season, are finding it tough this season. The problem appears to be at the back where they have conceded 19 goals, more than any other side in the group and something they need to remedy as soon as possible if they are going to have a chance of avoiding the drop at the end of the season.

Lleida Esportiu TCF 0 – 0 Atletico Levante UD

This was an excellent and very hard fought point won by Atletico Levante who travelled north to the league leaders and stopped them from scoring on their own ground. There were not too many clear cut chances in this match and that is a testament to the excellent organised game played by the visitors. The draw enables Lleida to stay at the top of the table for at least another week. They have 21 points, one more than second placed Villarreal B. For Atletico Levante, the draw leaves them in 12th position with 12 points having won three, drawn three and lost four of their ten matches played this season.

UE Cornella 0 – 1 Hercules CF Third and much needed victory of the season for Hercules CF, as they continue their bid to climb the table. This narrow win moves them up to 14th position, level on points (10 points) with Cornella.

A month ago, Hercules were stuck at the bottom of the table and, after sacking the then manager, they have slowly started to improve. It was also good for the scorer, Jona, who scored the only goal of the game after 14 minutes as it has been almost two years since the forward scored a goal.

CF La Nucia 2 – 1 SD Ejea

La Nucia got back to winning ways with this much needed victory against an SD Ejea side who were maybe worth a share of the points. After a goalless first 45 minutes, something that La Nucia have been working on as they have conceded an early goal in their last few matches, the match changed after second half substitutes, Titi and Morgado, scored a goal each to but their side well on top and although the visitors did pull a goal back at the death, the points went to La Nucia. The win moves La Nucia above their opponents into 8th position with 15 points, one place and one point above SD Ejea. UE Olot 2 – 1 Gimnastic Tarragona

UD Alzira drop one place to third after their draw away at Jove Español. They have 18 points and are one point above fourth placed Intercity, who drew away at Olimpic Xativa. Intercity are level on points (17 points) with Novelda CF and one point above the Elche reserve side, Ilicitano.
