In the month of November music lovers in L’Alfas del Pi and Albir can enjoy guitar and piano concerts given by Italian musicians, organised by the Sociedad de Musica Clasica de L’Alfas del Pi.
NOVEMBER 14
Guitarist Luciano Pompilio is considered among the best performers of the music of the legendary Paraguayan composer Agustin Pio Barrios Mangoré whose pieces Sueño en la Foresta and La Catedral will be in his programme on Thursday, November 14 at 20:00 at the Forum Mare Nostrum in L’Alfas del Pi, alongside works by Bach, Sor, M. Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Bogdanovic.
Tickets 7€ on the door. Luciano Pompilio graduated with honors in classical guitar at the Umberto Giordano Conservatory of Music in Foggia, Italy.
He took the first prize in fifteen, and reached the final round in over twenty five guitar competitions. In his recent visit to Paraguay, Pompilio was awarded Premio Repubblica, one of Latin America's most prestigious civil awards. Luciano Pompilio has produced eight CDs, his latest,
Tribute, made the top 30 Itunes and top 200 release list in Canada and Germany. He has toured Europe, Asia and America and is artistic director of the Città di Manfredonia International Guitar Festival and Season Chamber Music In Concerto in San Giovanni Rotondo. Luciano plays a Muller guitar and uses D’Addario strings.
NOVEMBER 16 AND 17
The piano duo Nicora-Baroffio has performed internationally since 1993 receiving public and critical acclaim. Concert goers will be able to enjoy “piano four hands” in two concerts - a programme of Mozart and Beethoven in the Casa de Cultura, L’Alfas del Pi on Saturday, November, 16 at 20:00 Tickets cost 10€ (members free) on the door; and a programme of Moszkowski, Brahms, Busoni, Chaminade and Stravinsky in the Centro Social Albir at midday on Sunday, November 17. Tickets cost 10€. (members 5€) on the door.
Chiara Nicora graduated in piano from the Conservatory of Florence and later in harpsichord from the Conservatory "G. Verdi" in Turin. Chiara Nicora performs both as pianist and harpsichordist collaborating with various chamber groups and orchestras. She has made a number of recordings playing on period instruments. In duet with Alessandra Molinari she won the scholarship announced by the Cini Foundation in Venice within the graduate course devoted to chamber music in the age of Bellini. She graduated in disciplines of the Arts of Music and Performing Arts at the University of Bologna. A graduate in Music Therapy at the "citadel" of Assisi she has a busy teaching schedule as a pianist and collaborator. Chiara Nicora teaches at the Conservatory of Sassari and the Civic Music
School of Varese.
Her book entitled "Angel Musicians. A musical journey through the frescoes of the churches of Varese and the chapels of S. Monte", was recently published.
Ferdinando Baroffio also graduated in piano from the Conservatory "G. Verdi" in Milan. He has won prizes in numerous national and international competitions, performing in concerts in Italy and abroad as a soloist and in chamber ensembles.
He participated in the performance of the complete sonatas of Prokofiev at the Stresa Festival and recently performed in the "G. Verdi" Hall of the Conservatory of Milan in the Fantasia-Choral op.80 by L. van Beethoven for piano, chorus and orchestra, published on CD.
Since 2005 he has collaborated with theater productions, writing original music for shows.
He wrote the music for the celebration of the anniversary of Costituzione Italiana at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence in the presence of the Head of State which was broadcast live.
He teaches piano at the Civic Music School of Varese and the Accademia Vivaldi in Locarno, Switzerland.
