Firstly an apology for a mistake in last week’s report! The trophy for the best two Medal rounds should have read combined men’s and ladies and not two separate competitions. The outcome therefore was Olga Douglas came in first from Mike Chapman followed by Mike Mahony who was in third place.

Monday and it was round one of this year’s (major trophy) Pairs Match Play Knockout. Through to the quarter finals were Bryan Neal and Maria Oldenziel who managed to beat Trevor Pullyblank and Reg Akehurst (pictured below) on the first extra hole whilst making light work of it were Paul Brown and Richard Connock who overcame Pat Cassidy and Ellen Drakesmith 7and 6.

Myself and Tom Hardie live to fight another day as we knocked out Terry Cullen and Annemarie Weisheit 6 and 4. Also into the quarters were Olga Douglas and Mike Chapman, Nora Betts and Peter Radcliffe together with Ron Phipps and Petina Murray.

Wednesday and it was quarter finals day. Through to the semis were Ron Phipps together with Petina Murray and Richard Connock alongside Paul Brown. Keeping it in the family Graham Murray and Mike Mahony knocked out myself and Tom Hardie (on the last hole.) Playing again on Friday will be Bryan Neal and Maria Oldenziel who won their game over Nora Betts and Peter Radcliffe 6 and 5.

For those that had taken an ‘early shower’ from the match play a Stableford competition was contested with Reg Akehurst taking the honours with 35 points. In second spot (on countback) was Joyce McClusky. The one ‘2’ of the day went to Pat Cassidy.

Into the final of the Pairs Match Play final go Graham Murray and Mike Mahony who beat Ron and Petina 7 and 5 and Richard Connock and Paul Brown who overcame Bryan and Maria on the 18th hole.

With 84 points it was Ron Luffman, Tom Hardie and Annemarie Weisheit who won today’s ‘Waltzer 1-2-3’.

This week’s quote is attributed to Bob Bruce who once commented, ‘You know you’re on the senior tour when your back goes out more than you do’.
