Marina Alta Golf Society

-

Second week running, where is Jenny! Camera shy!

With Marina Alta Golf Society player numbers remaining about the same as last week, the 10 members and three guests teed off in an individual Stableford game at the Oliva Nova course on Monday November 4. Two of the guests were back for the third week running, Alan and Beth McGregor must surely love playing with this society or they have nothing else to do. The weather forecast had promised a nice day with a little breeze which would make for good golfing conditions while the course was in its usual good shape.

At the end of the game back in the club house the results were as follows, In 1st place Keith Sinden with 34 points and the winner on countback playing off a 20 handicap. 2nd place went to David Reid also with 34 points off his new handicap of 13. 3rd place went to Jenny Downes who was also in 3rd place last week. This week she had 33 points off a handicap of 31.

There was just one 2 today and on a roll it was David Reid on hole 11.

NTP winners were: hole 3, nobody on the green, maybe it moved! Hole 16 guest Alan McGregor and hole 18 in 2 shots, David Reid. Not a bad day’s golf Dave, well done.

Apart from playing in today's game, it has emerged that our illustrious Captain Peter Gardiner has been playing golf for the last three days before this game in a Spanish Golf Federation pairs better ball tournament at the Aguilon Golf course near Mojacar. Peter and his partner Shaun O'Gorman (non-society member) were with 27 other pairs present for this part of the tournament. Just 28 pairs left out of the 420 pairs who first entered the tournament a few months ago. Peter who has never been shy in blowing his own trumpet keep his progress in the tournament quiet from fellow society members until just the other week. The first 2 days saw the players ( in pairs ) playing 27 holes each day followed by 18 holes on the last day in a singles tournament in what turned out to be a very windy day in that part of Spain. Peter and Shaun managed to be placed 10th in this pairing part of the tournament while in the singles tournament Peter had 32 points and was placed 2nd. Picking up prizes and their gifts from their goody bags both had a good time and highly recommended the golf course. On reflection Peter, blow your trumpet loud and long, you deserve it, well done both.

The Marina Alta Golf Society plays every Monday at the Oliva Nova course. If you want to join this friendly group of golfers as a guest, then a warm welcome will be waiting for you.
