Galician yachtsmen take 420 Spanish Cup

From October 31 to November 3, Altea Yacht Club hosted the most important national yachting event of the 420 class, the Spanish Cup.

A total of 188 sailors from all over Spain were tested in three days of tough competition. The intense winds proved the resistance of the sailors.

On Friday, November 1, the tests started in Altea. At 12.30 the wind allowed to l committee to the first exit, but late in the morning wind intensity down and the day closed with only one sleeve made for each group.

On Saturday, three rounds were completed for each group, with an average wind of 15 knots occasionally rising to 20 knots. Local pair, Alejandro Arroyo and Juan Antonio García, sailors from Altea Yacht Club, made a good mark and qualified for the gold group on Sunday.

Antonio Ripoll were positioned first overall on the second day, and managed to hold this, becoming the outright winners.

With 20 knots of intensity and large waves, the vessels classified in the gold group had to muster every effort in order to finish the two rounds.

At 17.00, and after sharing a paella with all attendees, the trophy ceremony commenced at the boathouse of Altea Yacht Club.

Galicians Jaboco García and Antonio Ripoll were winners of the Spain Cup of 420, 2019, picking up first prize in both the men's absolute and men's under 19 categories. Neus Ballester and Andrea Perello took gold in the women 's Absolute, U19 and U17 Women. Their teammates, Antonio Martino and Joan Catalá, went up to collect the prize in the men's U17 category.

With the awarding of trophies, Altea Yacht Club put the finishing touch to this 420 Spanish Cup, a national event of great relevance in the world of sailing, which, together with the Spanish Championship, will define the places of national representatives in the European Championships in Germany and the World Championship in France in July 2020.
