Travellers leaving Alicante-Elche airport had a final chance to support the annual Poppy Appeal at a special Royal British Legion stall before take off.

THE POPPY is the most iconic and recognised symbol of remembrance of all those who died serving their country and adopted by The Royal British Legion in 1921.

Each year they launch the Poppy Appeal and monies raised help to support the armed forces community. In Benidorm this took place on October 18 for District North Spain – and all money raised in Spain from the campaign stays here.

Numerous British businesses have boxes of poppies available in exchange for a donation and over the last few years, there has been a stand at Alicante-Elche airport, which sees thousands of passengers pass through every day.

The district will be holding a Remembrance service on Monday (November 11) at the Catholic church in Hondón de Los Frailes and ask if everyone planning on attending be seated by 10.40.

Afterwards there will be a short parade to the town hall garden with the mayor, British vice-consul, branch president and chairman who will lay wreaths and poppy crosses.

On Saturday, November 30 they will have a stall at the Christmas street market between 10.30 and 15.00 which is always a lively occasion and would warmly welcome everyone to stop by and say hello.
