Safety in mind with road works
By Jack Troughton CONSTRUCTION of two new roundabouts on the busy road linking Jávea with the N332 at Gata de Gorgos is about to start as the sites are prepared for the construction.
Bright yellow markings on the CV-734 carriageway have been painted to warn drivers approaching the work on the first of the junctions - linking the road with the crematorium and the provisional access to the new industrial estate.
The second roundabout both are projects funded by the Valencia regional government - will be constructed at the same time and is sited at the Ramblars junction.
Last year new 70 kph speed limits and double white lines were introduced along the length of the road between Jávea and the N332 arterial road to reduce accidents.
A spokesman for Jávea town hall said the preparation work had been completed ahead of construction of the roundabouts.
“Yellow road markings have been painted to warn drivers that road works are being carried out and the shape of the roundabouts have been marked out with stakes,” he said.
“They will be built at the same time to optimise the use of resources and machinery and it is not planned for the road to be closed to traffic; although it will be changed temporarily into a single lane when needed, to be compatible with the ongoing work.”
Jávea’s mayor José Chulvi said the necessary land had been acquired from private owners. “This investment will improve road safety on one of the main accesses into Jávea.”
