Local police force take on UD Levante veterans for cancer charities

- By Samantha Kett

LOCAL police from Dénia and UD Levante veterans have staged a friendly match next month in aid of two cancer charities.

Officers have been training hard to enable them to take on the challenge of playing retired footballers from the Valencia-based club, and are urging members of the public to come along and watch.

Tickets cost €3, all of which will go to the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Paediatric Cancer Centre in Barcelona, which carries out vital research, and to ASPANION, which supports children with cancer and their families.

Kick-off is at noon on Sunday, February 16 at the El Rodat pitch in Dénia and comes within the umbrella of the #PelsValentsDénia ('For The Brave Ones Dénia') project.

Anyone who cannot attend or is not a huge fan of football can buy a 'ticket' for 'row 0' – or pay €3 to not go – if they want to donate anyway.

Pupils from the Raquel Payá special school will prepare and distribute fresh juice during the match, the cost of which will go towards helping the centre provide equipment and tailored education to handicapped children.

The association TAPIS has created two trophies and donated them to the match, and the Baleària Foundation is also supporting the event.

Tickets can be acquired from the local police station, on the gate on the day, or from local trade premises Estanco Troyas, Peluquería Carol, Melicatesen, Formes Vidres i Toldos, Peluquería Vicky Costa, Peluquería Nieves Sivera, De Mil Sabores, Seguros Pedrós, Luminiq, Motos Quirro, AD Group, Pérez Peluqueros, and La Botiga de Pura.
