Public housing facelift planned
PROJECTS to improve common areas in public housing in Almoradí and Santa Pola have been put out to tender by the regional government.
They are part of its plan to spruce up public housing around the region.
In Almoradí, the work has a budget of €600,000 and will focus on repairing damage, renewing facilities, extending green areas and improving accessibility at the 50 homes in the municipality.
This includes fixing drainpipes, roofs, etc; installing LED lights; improving safety (fire prevention systems, emergency lighting, extinguishers), and fitting a platform for disabled access at the rear of the building.
The exterior fixtures will be replaced, as they have become seriously deteriorated and this will significantly improve the energy efficiency of the building.
The recreational areas will be reorganised with larger green spaces and new furniture, and the plan also includes measures to address social issues and ensure that the homes are occupied legally.
Three of the public homes in Almoradí have been assigned to the local families with the greatest need for housing and the amount of rent they will pay has been adjusted to their financial situations.
The work in Santa Pola is of a similar nature and is expected to start during the first half of this year with a budget of €686,465, announced regional housing councillor Rubén Martínez on a visit to the municipality last Friday.
He met with mayoress Loreto Serrano and said projects like these help to ‘improve people’s quality of life and make their surroundings more pleasant and accessible’.
