Knitted Knockers
For any woman that has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and has to undergo, or has had reconstructive surgery, this can be a very welcome and much appreciated solution to the standard issue prosthesis. ‘Knitted Knockers' is a lightweight alternative which is hand knitted using 100% mercerised cotton yarn with non-allergic filling and provided free with the aim of helping women through an emotionally and physically stressful period. There are currently over 500 Knitted Knocker groups in 30 different countries and one right here on the Costa Blanca – based in Javea.
It is run by Annette Bowen and supported by MABS Cancer Support, but she needs more ladies to volunteer to knit.
All materials – wool, patterns etc will be provided – all that is required is your time and skill, of what is sadly a diminishing art form!

Home grown talent is arranged for the first demonstration of the new decade for the Marina Alta Costa Blanca Floral Club on Thursday, January 23.
Taking the stage in a ‘floral duet’ are NAFAS area demonstrators Jenny Peachey and Christine Brazier - both now live on the Costa Blanca and are current committee member of the club.
The pair presents ‘Primavera’ at the Salon de Actos, La Senieta, in Moraira - a look at spring and its new growth when the garden is full of blossom and new beginnings.
Before beginning a new life in Spain, Jenny was chairman of her club in Lymington on three occasions and was made a life president and is a Chelsea gold medal winner.
She has taken a leading role in many flower festivals including at Westminster Cathedral and as part of the design team for Romsey Abbey and Truro Cathedral Festival.
With her husband Dave, she plays host to the ‘coffee and cake’ fundraiser in recognition of the NAFAS Flower Arrangers’ day here on the coast and takes part in regular floral demonstrations to raise money for good causes including Macmillan support and her local church festivals.
The club first met Christine when she travelled to the coast to show off her skills at a demonstration in April 2018 and stayed in Parcent; falling in love with the area and making a permanent move to the Jalon Valley.
Before the big move, she was honoured to help arrange flowers at Westminster Abbey for the Battle of Britain Memorial Service, as well

Volunteers - We are still desperate for volunteers and foster homes.
The shelter at Le Pedrera Poligono Industrial Estate, Benissa is open from 10am - 3pm Monday Sunday situated near the Eco park, off the N322 Moraira to Benissa.

On the Costa Blanca, Christine is an active and supportive member of the club committee and runs the Vall de Pop U3A Flower Arranging Group and has quickly integrated into her community.
Like all meetings at the Salon de Actos, doors open for the demonstration at 14.00 and close at 14.45. Entrance for members is €5 and for visitors €8.

Montgo Chorale
Montgó Chorale has members from a range of nationalities and ages who come together under the baton of Musical Director Jan Dewland to rehearse and perform a range of choral works.
The choir has, through its many acclaimed concerts, raised considerable funds for local charities such as Caritas and the Convent Day Centre in Jávea which cares for the elderly and Alzheimer's sufferers.

The English Choir
The choir is now 30 strong and members meet every Thursday from 3.30pm until 5.30pm in the Pensionista Suite Teulada to rehearse.
Under the mighty baton of new musical director Jan Gardner Brown accompanied by Heather Butcher on the piano the choir cover an ever expanding programme of diverse musical genres .
Since its inception the choir have raised many thousands of euros for charitable causes.
