Eddie's Final Whistle

- By Eddie Cagigao

2nd B Division, Group 3

Due to some clubs being involved in the Spanish Copa Del Rey (Kings Cup) competition at the weekend, some matches will be played in midweek, as listed below.

Match day 20 – January 12 Atletico Levante UD 1 – 1 Villarreal CF B

This was the classic game of two half ’s as Levante totally dominated the first 45 minutes without managing to take advantage of their many chances. Going into the half time break, Levante must have thought their chances had come and gone.

However, the second half started much the same way the first ended with Levante still on the front foot and in the 54th minute, Levante midfielder Ferni opens the scoring for his side.

The goal for the home side produced a reaction on the Villarreal bench and they made a double substitution which changed the course of the game. From that point onwards, Villarreal stepped things up and controlled the game. It was certainly no surprise when, on 71 minutes, Sergio Lozano equalised for the visitors.

Villarreal continued to push and could have won the game late on but had to settle for a share of the points.

This draw leaves Atletico Levante in 12th position with 25 points, five points above the relegation places. Villarreal are in 8th position with 30 points, four points below the Play Off places.

Hercules CF 2 – 2 AE Prat

It is now five games without a win for Hercules and no win at home since the October 30 2019 as they yet again were unable to hold on to a lead against a side who, like them, are struggling at the wrong end of the table.

But it all started well enough for the Alicante side. Although their football left a lot to be desired and they never really troubled the visitors, they did take the lead when Yeray Gonzalez scored from the penalty spot right on half time.

AE Prat managed to equalise in the 55th minute before Hercules scored what looked like a winner in the 78th minute. However, the Catalan side once again equalised with a goal in the 83rd minute to take a well merited share of the points. This draw helps neither side. AE Prat stay in 19th position, just one place off the bottom of the table with 15 points and six points below the safety places.

Hercules are a little better off as they are in 17th position with 18 points and three below the safety places.

CD Castellon 0 – 1 CE Sabadell FC

Castellon missed another great chance to close the gap at the top of the table as they lost against the league leaders, a result which sees them drop down to third position with 34 points, four points behind the leaders and two points behind the second placed side, RED Español B. The home side started well and took the game to their opponents without creating too many chances. Despite their good start, the visitors started to demonstrate why they are at the very top of the table as they contained the home side and scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game in the 40th minute, through defender Alex Coch.

As Castellon tried a second half comeback, more in desperation than anything else, they also lost defender Satrustegui who received his second yellow card in the 83rd minute.

Lleida Esportiu 2 – 1 Valencia CF Mestalla

A bad start to the year for Valencia Mestalla who went down 2-1 away at Lleida and have now gone six matches without a win. Two goals from Lleida midfielder Eder – in the 30th and 62nd minutes of the game, put the home side firmly in control, despite Adrian Guerrero scoring the best goal of the game for Valencia, in the 76th minute. This defeat, added to their recent form, has seen Mestalla drop down the table. They are now in 14th position although with just 21 points on the board, they are only three points above the automatic relegation places. FC Andorra 0 – 3 RCD Español B
