Songs of the golden age
Chamber choir Cantores Sanctis Diebus bounce back to the Costa Blanca this month for the group’s 18th tour since 2010.
Based in Salisbury and founded over 40 years ago, the choir is performing three concerts under the direction of Nicholas Hales in aid of local charity on February 21, 22, and 23.
And Concerts Costa Blanca, which is helping promote the visit, describes Cantores as a “wonderful choir.”
The group specialises in the English and Spanish music of the ‘Golden Age’ - El Siglo de Oro - with music by composers such as Tallis and Byrd, Victoria and Guerrero.
The featured work on this visit will be Victoria’s motet and mass O quam gloriosum. The concerts feature around an hour of music, each performance is free and there is a retiring collection to support good causes.
On Friday February 21 at 17.00; Cantores will make its “exciting” debut at the church La Navidad del Señor in Orba, which lies at the heart of the town. The concert is in aid of Caritas Orba and the research into leprosy carried out at nearby Fontilles hospital.
The second performance is at 17.00 on Saturday February 22 in the Loreto church in Javea port; a regular biannual concert in aid of the local Caritas.
And on Sunday February 23 at 09.45, the choir is in action at the Ermita del Popul on the CV-735 Javea to Jesus Pobre road; singing mass for the Costa Blanca Anglican Chaplaincy.
