Police chief proud of ‘comrades’

- By Jack Troughton

THE EVOLVING role of the thin blue line in Jávea during the coronavirus emergency has won the pride and respect of the town’s police chief.

In an open letter, Chief Inspector José Antonio Monfort thanked officers for their 'exemplary effort', 'deep vocation for public service', and 'generosity' during the crisis.

He spoke of the force’s courage in facing the demands of keeping the general public safe with a 'small but essential role' in a pandemic that has swept across Europe.

“To see you work through this crisis, I couldn’t be prouder to be your colleague, to share with you a uniform, a badge and a town, to be by your side in this extraordinary effort from the beginning to the end,” wrote the chief inspector.

“We are facing the greatest health crisis of the past century and we are at the gates of a social and economic challenge in Europe that has not been seen since the end of the Second World War.

“To you, all the men and women who form the local police in Jávea, and the rest of our comrades in the other security forces; the security, the peace, and the access to basic services by the population depend on you. You are the human border between fear and anxiety, between hopelessness and optimism, and between abandonment and strength.”

Chief Inspector Monfort said everyone recognised the work of the force and he joined Jávea in thanking officers for their work. “For my part, you can count on all my help, recognition and support; both now and also when the situation has passed.”
