Local airports on standby
Maintenance work is being carried out to ensure that they are ready to operate as normal as soon as the national government gives the go-ahead
AIRPORTS around Spain are adapting their services and facilities to the sharp fall in flights due to the Covid-19 health crisis, state-run company Aena reported on Tuesday.
According to the airport authority, they are doing this in a ‘gradual fashion, adapting to the requirements of the healthcare crisis’.
An Aena spokeswoman reported that the departure area at Alicante-Elche airport has been closed and only eight gates remain in operation. Two luggage belts are running for arrivals.
The VIP area has been closed and there are no ‘meet and assist’ or ‘fast lane’ services.
In addition, the long-term parking area and three floors of the multi-storey car park have been shut.
The spokeswoman noted that flying is only allowed for ‘unavoidable reasons’ and advised passengers to check their flights and their boarding gate with their airline.
Murcia
Murcia international airport at Corvera, which was closed last month, opened again on April 10.
However, it is only operating at the request of airlines.
Aena stressed that they must inform the authorities at least three hours prior to the departure or arrival of a flight so they can have a team in place.
The spokeswoman stressed that only cargo flights, planes transporting organs and healthcare products related to emergency services can be ‘guaranteed’ a slot in the operating schedule.
Basic maintenance work is being carried out at the airports to ensure that they are ready to operate as normal as soon as the national government gives the go-ahead.
