Benitachell hosts interactive fiesta
WITH THE statement “If people can't go to the party, let the party go to their home”, Benitachell town hall, not to be beaten by the current lockdown, has organised a complete replacement programme for the MitjaFava Fest, being held this week. The departments of agriculture, and economic promotion and culture have devised a complete programme, with culinary challenges, contests, balcony decorations, documentary screenings or virtual meetings that will be shared on social networks using the hashtag #socmitjafava.
The festival started on Monday with Fava Gastronomic Week, when residents were invited to prepare their favourite dishes with broad beans and share the photos or videos on the networks. A children's drawing competition, 'Benitatxell pinta la fava' will also be active throughout the week, aimed at children between 3 and 12 years old.
The drawings must be related to the bean, and must be sent to comunicacio@elpoblenoudebenitatxell.org indicating the name and date of birth. There will be prizes for the three finalist drawings.
On Friday, April 17 a weekend full of activities will begin. At 18.00 there will be the official decoration of balconies, terraces and facades, whose photos will need to be posted on social networks. There will be a prize for the three best designs. Later, at 20.30, the documentary 'Sembra, menja i estim la fava poblera', by Paco Soto and Empar Ferrer, will be screened live on the Facebook page of the town hall.
On Saturday, April 18, the day will enjoy a full programme. At 11:00 the 'engrunament' of beans will take place. The initiative aims to incite citizens to record themselves by demonstrating their skills by pronouncing the motto 'Pride mitjafava!'. At 12.00, it will be the time of the 'Telematic Vermouth', which invites you to share a vermouth or any variant with friends via video message. In the afternoon, from 18.00, the 'Tardeo pobler' will be held, where you have to prepare a tapa to enjoy with a beer, wine or soft drink. And to end the day, it is planned to go out on balconies and dedicate applause to the farmers.
To end the week, on Sunday, April 19, the programme proposes going onto balconies at 12.00 and singing the hymn 'Soc mitjafava', by Toni Català. At 14.00, virtual guests are invited to cook a paella with beans and share it with everyone.
