W ith the lock down still on and the P remier L eag ue and A lfaz F antasy F ootball L eag ue still on hold I thoug ht it would be a g ood idea to tak e a look at the history of the A .F .F .L . in the last 2 6 years.
T he first newspaper to start F antasy L eag ue was the D aily T eleg raph in 1 9 9 3 in which I took part and the rest is history because the following year I was q uite successful reaching number 4 in the W orld T able. A t the time I had my own bar in A lfaz and all the customers and friends k ept coming in and ask ing how my team was doing each week which g av e me the idea to start a L eag ue the following season.
T he v ery first A .F .F .L . started with 3 1 teams tak ing part and was won by A lan L eech's team S elohesra C ity. S ince then there hav e been 2 4 different F antasy manag ers winning the L eag ue. T he only manag er to win the L eag ue twice is K eith W hitwell who won it in 1 9 9 6 with G luepot G obblers and ag ain in the year 2 0 0 0 with T he C rystals. T he first lady manag er to win the F antasy L eag ue was J eanette M alone in 2 0 0 5 when her team J in's D ream T eam just pipped S hawn's P unk y R oosters after penalty shoot out in the C up F inal between A rsenal and M anchester U nited. J eanette was also the first winner of our M ark C arter L adies S ection and has since g one on to win our K .O . C up competition in 2 0 1 6 , a year which saw the most teams ev er to tak e part, that season had ov er 3 5 0 teams.
T he first J unior L eag ue winner was S arah L ong when her team T he D ons lifted the T rophy in 2 0 0 8 and then prog ressed to win our L adies S ection sev en years later in 2 0 1 5 .
O v er the last 1 3 years we hav e added four more leag ues. G olden B oot L eag ue, F .A . C up L eag ue, K .O . C up competition and more recently our C hampion of C hampions L eag ue.
W e hav e had many sponsors ov er the years and our main ones being , M undibuilt, B odding ton's M acrae W hisk y, E lite H eating , B ritannia F oods, and B et F red. T here are too many to mention them all but I would lik e to say M ark C arter has sponsored our L adies S ection for ov er 1 5 years along with I an C harman from the C ellar B ar who used to pick a C ellar B ar C ert each week for our top
L ady M anag er.
W ith this our 2 6 th season of the F antasy L eag ue, ov er the years many people hav e g iv en a lot of time and support, from the early days T erry W hitehead, P eter G lobel and V ince T racy who hav e all contributed to improv ing our set up.
O ur website has been up and running for the last 1 4 years and a lot of credit in the early stag es g oes to M ik e G reen who was instrumental in setting the system up but unfortunately M ik e hasn't been too well recently and we now hav e J av i, who liv es in B arcelona running our website. H e is my rig ht hand man, T erry W illiams's son-in-law and is doing a g reat job of k eeping ev erything running smoothly.
T erry W illiams does most of the running about these days especially helping with the brochure, L eag ue and K .O . C up draw, don't k now what I would do without him.
