Valencia region bids to enter phase two
Figures are now ‘more favourable’ after holding back for a week
The new phase would allow beaches to reopen
REGIONAL president Ximo Puig has asked for the whole of the Valencia region to progress to phase two of the government’s exit plan from Monday, June 1.
The documentation to support the move was supplied to the health ministry in Madrid on Tuesday.
Sr Puig noted that they had waited an additional week – and not made the application to change phases from Monday, May 25, as was originally envisaged – after the regional health authority detected an increase in the reproduction of the virus in the middle of May.
Sr Puig highlighted that they will go ‘step by step’ and held back in order to be ‘prudent and responsible’, as they will never take risks with the health of the people.
However, the situation has improved and is now ‘more favourable’ than last week.
He said the figures show that the number of people being treated in hospital for coronavirus is still falling and there are just 27 patients in intensive care units around the region. Sr Puig added that they have increased the number of
PCR tests being carried out by 20% to more than 2,500 a day, which is allowing them to detect new cases when they arise.
Mask aid needed
Sr Puig explained that he has had discussions with PM Pedro Sánchez over ‘finding a solution’ to the cost of face masks for residents on low incomes now that use has been made obligatory.
“This pandemic cannot lead to more inequality,” stated Sr Puig.
Advertising campaign
The Valencia government has launched an advertising campaign to warn people to be on their guard as the region moves forward to advanced phases of the exit plan which will bring more freedoms.
Named ‘ConPrudencia’ (with caution), people who have suffered Covid-19 relate their experience of the virus on the adverts.
Councillor for health Ana Barceló said: “We must all obey the recommendations from the ministry for health and keep social distancing because that is our best protection.”
