Summer building under discussion
LAST FRIDAY, Teulada Moraira council met with the construction sector to learn firsthand about their problems in the face of the current health crisis, and study measures to support it. The meeting, held online, involved mayoress Rosa Vila; councillor for works and infrastructures, Héctor Morales; and councillor for town planning, Vicen Ferrando.
The meeting served to listen to each other's needs and work together in search of solutions that contribute to mitigating the effects of the crisis without harming others. The main topic discussed was the regulation that prohibits carrying out construction works during the summer months in order to guarantee peace and quiet.
Both parties agreed to hold a further meeting with companies from the tourism, hospitality and trade sectors to reach a consensus that favours all those involved. They agreed it is both necessary for construction companies to make up for the time lost in the pandemic, and for tourists to be guaranteed a quality stay without excessive noise. The plan that will be discussed is how to undertake unfinished work in the summer, but suspend it during the month of August. This measure would be temporary, and only for this summer.
“Our town has always been characterised by offering quality family tourism”, said Sra Vila.
“We were one of the first coastal towns to regulate works in the summer to guarantee rest, and we want to maintain this characteristic of ours, especially in a difficult year like this. But we cannot forget that this crisis has affected all sectors, and we must contribute to mitigating its effects as far as possible. For this reason, the best thing is to find solutions through consensus that benefit everyone, without harming anyone.”
Sr Morales added: “I would like to thank all construction entrepreneurs for their predisposition to work together and meet with other sectors to establish the best solutions.”
