APAH back from the brink

- By Margaret McCabe

IT would seem that we are starting to emerge from the dreadful situation we have all found ourselves in since March.

It has been an incredibly difficult time for organisations such as ours, APAH Animal Rescue, who are wholly reliant on donations in one form or another. Unable to open our shops or hold fundraising events, it was touch and go whether the coffers would run dry before we got the chance to begin again.

Unfortunately our search for new premises for our dogs was put on hold, along with many other things during the lockdown, so paying for the temporary accommodation for them and the cats in our cattery etc. has tested us to the limit. Without the wonderful people who have given us cash donations, we would not have survived.

When you have the responsibility of caring for animals who have already suffered so much in their short lives through neglect, abuse or abandonment - it is heart breaking to even consider what would happen to them if you physically could not carry on.

Fortunately, the relaxing of the restrictions came in the nick of time for us (and I’m sure lots of other charities like us), so we were delighted to be able to reopen our shops - in Pilar de la Horadada and San Miguel de Salinas - on May 18 (under restrictions of course). We are hoping that with income from them, and fundraising events in the future, we will be able to get APAH back on track.

Our president, Yvonne Colby has asked to publicly acknowledge and thank everyone who has generously given us the donations which have helped get us through these difficult times. We are enormously grateful to the people who helped get us to this point and are bringing APAH back from the brink

Our search for a site for our new kennels will begin again, so we look forward to welcoming people back in our shops.
