Jalón rastro returns

- By Jo Pugh

An announcement from Jalon town hall on Thursday gave a sigh of relief to traders, as the popular Jalon rastro returns this Saturday 6 June. Antique stalls will be given priority, as they were how the rastro started, and initially only 25% of the stalls will be erected.

“It's a way of going back to the origins of the market, which started with these stalls”, explained the councillor for trade, Lore Blasco. The Jalon rastro will be one of the first of the bigger markets to return. The rastro is an economic lung for the town, and the council had marked its reopening as a priority.

Stall holders have had to fill in new forms specifying the features of the items they sell. In fact, Blasco explained that “we are taking advantage of this situation to oxygenate the rastro, which had been growing non-stop for almost 30 years. Now is the time to specify what kind of stalls we want to be present”.

The capacity of the site will be controlled, for which there will be the presence of the Local Police, council staff, and the support of an external security company. It will be mandatory to wear a mask. The rastro will open at 09.00 in the same location as always, the tourist information car park.

When it comes to bars and restaurants, the council continues its policy of encouraging them to have more outdoor space to have more tables. Because of this, a stretch of Carrer Sant Jude will become pedestrianised so the restaurants there can open with more terrace space during the weekend.
