Pedreguer jazz weekend

Yes, a 'real' concert at last!

- By Samantha Kett skett@cbnews.es

Sick of only 'going' to concerts online and yearning for the real thing? Well, thanks to the region's entering into 'Phase 2' of 'unlocking' this Monday, you finally can. If you're in the province of Alicante, at least, and within easy driving distance of Pedreguer – sorry, Valencia-province residents. We're not allowed to cross the borders yet. Which means if you live in Sagunto, you can visit your mates in Oliva 150 kilometres away, but your mates in Oliva can't visit theirs in El Verger, five kilometres away.

Never mind. It's countdown to 'new normality' now, and it'll whizz by sooner than you think.

JAZZING UP YOUR POSTLOCKDOWN LIFE

Jazz music in several of its guises – Latin, fusion, Brazilian and bolero – is set to fill the air in Pedreguer this weekend, and not, for a change, from flat windows. Instead, real-live concerts will grace the Plaça de l'Amistat from 20.00 tonight (Friday), tomorrow and Sunday – and, guess what? They're free of charge. Check them out below.

FRIDAY, JUNE 5

Eva Olivencia & Túmbate Jazz

Typical jazz music plus fusion, bolero, Brazilian and Latin in a concert titled Diferente ('different'). Whether it is, indeed, or whether it's much the same as anything else you've heard before, who cares? It's music, it's played by some of the region's best-loved professional artists, and it's outdoors. You can't ask for more than that.

Well, you can, but you're just being greedy.

SATURDAY, JUNE 6

Pepe Zaragoza

A complete mixed medley of just about every style of jazz invented from the 1920s to the 2020s, although with a very 'Valencian' feel, this popular musician's show is titled Autòctone, which roughly translates as 'regional' or 'native'. Get close to your adopted roots and soak up the long-missed poetry of melodies floating on open air.

SUNDAY, JUNE 7

Marina

Pete Lala

Trad jazz and modern jazz combined, the name of this eclectic ensemble's repertoire – Colors ('Colours') kind of says it all, really. If music were indeed in colour, you'll hear everything from neutrals like beige and magnolia through to flame-red and bright orange. This rainbow of tunes will brighten up your week and get you in the right mood for work on Monday morning (or, if you're retired, for gardening, house-painting or whatever productive stuff you've been feeling guilty about not having done in lockdown).
