Costa gets ready for LaLiga

- By Jo Pugh

FOR THE first time in five years first division football returns to the province of Alicante. The first match will be held at the Camilo Cano Olympic Stadium of La Nucía on Monday, June 15 at 19.30. The game will be between Levante UD and Sevilla. The last first division game played in Alicante province was on May 17, 2015 when Athletic Club de Bilbao beat Elche by 3-2. In that year, Elche dropped to the second division due to breaches of LaLiga regulations.

Levante UD played in La Nucía against Sevilla FC, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club and Getafe CF before the competition was stopped because of coronavirus. The remodelling works of the 'Ciutat de València' Stadium have led Levante UD to find another stadium to play the last six home league games of the 2019-2020 season, which will be played behind closed doors due to the health crisis. The team probed other options to play their games, such as the Castalia stadium in Castellón, the sports city of Villarreal and the José Rico Pérez of Alicante, but finally opted for La Nucía.

“The election of Levante UD of the Camilo Cano Olympic Stadium for these last six La Liga Santander matches at home, will entail an incalculable promotion for La Nucía and its brand-new stadium both nationally and internationally. All Levante UD matches will be broadcast live on television nationally and internationally, which is why the Camilo Cano Olympic Stadium will be see worldwide.

To which must be added the great media coverage that First Division matches entail at the media level: press, radio, digital media and television; both in the pre-match, during the match and in the post-match summaries”, the town hall stated on Monday.
