Towns join forces to fight water problems
Agreement will improve supplies to Benitachell and Teulada-Moraira
A historic agreement has been reached between Benitachell and Teulada-Moraira via the local water consortium that will finally allow improvements to the grids in both towns
LAST FRIDAY, the governing board of Teulada-Moraira and Benitachell town halls' water consortium signed a historic agreement.
Each entity has been given independence so that, through a proportionally divided annual budget, they can act on their water supply individually and quickly according to their needs.
After eight years of virtual paralysis in investment. and with infrastructure deteriorated, €300,000 will be provided at the end of this year for repairs to the network. TeuladaMoraira will receive 68% of the budget, and the remaining 32% will be for Benitachell.
For the distribution of the budget, three variables have been agreed upon, which will annually determine the percentage of investment that corresponds to each council. It will be calculated according to the number of homes in each town, the length of the pipe network and population supply needs.
“This agreement represents a before and after for the consortium. It is the starting point towards a new, more efficient management,” agreed the president of the entity and the mayor of Benitachell, Miguel Ángel García, and the vice president and mayoress of Teulada Moraira, Rosa Vila.
They both highlighted the importance of good water supply network, especially in towns with populations that multiply exponentially their during the summer season.
Sr García and Sra Vila also highlighted the good harmony between the two councils and their willingness to work together to invest in improvements.
