THE REGIONAL government has ‘controlled’ a localised outbreak of coronavirus in Valencia province, councillor for health Ana Barceló reported on Wednesday.

Sra Barceló noted that four more cases were located in Rafelbunyol after they launched an investigation when three members of a family unit tested positive.

Healthcare officials carried out 349 PCR tests on employees at the company where they worked and found the four cases amongst the workforce. They were due to carry out more tests in the area on Wednesday.

Healthcare officials will continue to study and follow the situation, noted Sra Barceló.

“Our first estimations show a low level of transmission but we will continue to carry on with the PCR tests to rule out any more cases in this workplace area,” she added.

The councillor noted that anyone suspected of having caught the virus is kept in isolation until they have the results of their PCR test.

Regional figures

For the rest of the Valencia region, Sra Barceló noted on Wednesday that two new coronavirus cases had been reported in Alicante province in the previous 24 hours and none in Castellón. The number of patients being treated for coronavirus in hospitals in the region continues to go down. Last Wednesday (June 17) the number was 87, which had been reduced to 64 this Wednesday (June 24), with only eight patients in intensive care (down by three on the previous week).

The figures for the three provinces show that there are four patients in hospital in Castellón, 24 in Alicante (four in intensive care) and 36 in Valencia (four in intensive care).

A total of five more deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in the region in the last week, with the total now standing at 1,470 (227 in Castellón province, 509 in Alicante province and 734 in Valencia).

Sra Barceló explained that 497 healthcare professionals in the region still have the virus – down two on last week.
