World Rugby cancels the U20 Trophy
IN A DECISION agreed with the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER), World Rugby has officially communicated the cancellation of the World Rugby U20 Trophy that was to be held from September 7-26 this year in Villajoyosa, and whose organisation had been granted to the FER.
The cancellation of this world event, in which eight countries participate, the six winners in the continental tournaments of the World Rugby regional associations (Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, North America-Caribbean and South America) together with Scotland and the host, Spain, is due to the health crisis and more specifically to the difficulty in recovering the players' fitness, the uncertainty regarding intercontinental flights and compliance with the sanitary requirements of the governments of each one of the participating countries.
World Rugby transmitted its appreciation to the Spanish Rugby Federation for the enormous work carried out for over a year, as well as that carried out by the different entities of the Valencia region, involved from the outset in the perfect organisation of event.
Both World Rugby and the FER showed their gratitude to the mayor of Villajoyosa, the councillor for sports, the president and the manager of CR La Vila, and many more involved with the competition. this
World Rugby stated its desire to celebrate this edition of the World Rugby U20 Trophy in the Valencia region, and do it as soon as possible, but only when it can take place under the conditions that international competitions of this level require.
