Boost for street cleaning service

-

The street cleaning and refuse collection service in Pilar de la Horadada is being improved following complaints from residents in Pinar de Campoverde, Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras.

According to the council, the staff will be doubled in the summertime, streets will also be cleaned on Sundays and bank holidays, and the road sweeping service will be increased.

A town hall spokesman added that a new lorry to collect garden waste will be purchased and the weed fumigation and removal service will be improved. The update of the contract with waste disposal company STV Gestión was approved in June’s full council meeting on the basis that more than 3,000 new homes have been built in the town since the contract was last modified in 2013 and the municipality now has more pavements, roads, parks and residents. The revamped service will cost an additional €578,000 a year, with the council currently paying more than €4.1 million a year in total. Residents from Pinar de Campoverde and the local Socialist party (PSOE) have been complaining in recent months about weeds on pavements and roads and poor service in general. They claimed that bags full of garden waste were left uncollected for several weeks and blamed the local government for the ‘state of neglect’ of the village. Residents of Torre de la Horadada have also been complaining about the poor service and reminded that many holiday homes are being built in Torre de la Horadada.
