More weather watching in place

- By Alex Watkins awatkins@cbnews.es

SAN Fulgencio now has two weather stations to provide residents with real time data about the local climate.

They are located in the town centre and La Marina urbanisation, and make up part of a network around the Vega Baja set up by the MeteOrihuela association, run by meteorologist Pedro Gómez.

He expressed his gratitude to the town hall and local police for their support.

The weather stations’ sensors measure temperature, humidity, dew point, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, the ultra violet index, evapotranspiration and precipitation. The data is constantly updated on the websites of the town hall and www.mete orihuela.com/redmeteo

It is also distributed to major national and international weather services, such as Meteoclimatic, Weather Underground, AVAMET and AMETSE.

Also, when there is particularly bad weather, the service will offer reports for residents from the local police.

The MeteOrihuela network already has weather stations in Albatera, Almoradí, Bigastro, Callosa de Segura, Catral, Cox, Guardamar del Segura, Jacarilla, Orihuela, Orihuela Costa, Rafal, Rojales and Pilar de la Horadada.

Sr Gómez is hoping to set one up next in Benferrí, when town hall funding becomes available.

On Friday he also attended the presentation of a plaque from state weather agency AEMET to 92-year-old Callosa de Segura resident Marien, who has been providing them with meteorological readings for over 45 years.
