Safe museum certified
THE ALICANTE museum of archaeology (MARQ) has received certification from the Spanish institute for quality tourism (ICTE) for its measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
At the announcement on Friday, provincial deputy for culture Julia Parra said this was quite an achievement since only three museums in Spain had received this recognition.
“This reinforces the image of the MARQ as a safe space and confirms the good work over recent months to adapt the installations to the new health reality,” she said.
The specifications to achieve UNE 0066-09:2020 for museums and heritage sites include social distancing, use of face masks, a contingency plan, cleaning and disinfection, control over access and capacity, PPE for staff and priority for online reservations.
The MARQ has invested €40,000 in the safety measures, and the certification also covers the Torre de la Almudaina
and the sites it manages – Tossal de Manises-Lucentum and the Illeta dels Banyets (which have not reopened yet).
This certification is validated by health experts and designed to minimise risks and prevent regions from establishing their own health protocols so that the nation as a whole can be promoted as a safe holiday destination.
The temporary exhibition at the MARQ, about ancient idols, is coming to an end but this weekend (July 4 and 5) entry is free and there are two guided tours every hour from 09.3019.30 on Saturday and 11.0013.00 on Sunday.
