Boat people sought to enter Spain illegally
MORE than 140 migrants in 13 vessels have arrived at several different points along the coast during the last week.
A total of 33 migrants aboard three small boats intercepted after reaching the coast of Alicante province on Monday, all of them men and in relatively good health.
According to the Red Cross and Guardia Civil, the first boat was located at about 07.00 drifting off Cabo de las Huertas in Alicante, and 17 Algerians were tracked down on land and taken to the National Police station in the city.
The other two boats, each carrying eight people, both reached land, the first being found on Playa del Moncayo in Guardamar del Segura at about 10.00, and the other on Campoamor-Mil Palmeras in Orihuela Costa.
They also all claimed to be
Algerian except one Palestinian, and only one person needed to be taken to a health centre, as he had a wound that had been closed with stitches which had come out.
They were taken to the Guardia Civil stations in Guardamar and Torrevieja.
The security forces have started the procedures to identify the migrants, confirm their country of origin and repatriate them.
All of them were given tests for coronavirus only two of the men from the boat in Alicante were positive.
Murcia
State news agency EFE reported that 10 boats and 108 migrants were located off the coast of Cartagena over the weekend.
They all hailed from Algeria and included five women and three minors.
The migrants were taken to Cartagena port and – after the activation of ‘all the healthcare protocols’ – were examined by Red Cross paramedics before being handed to the National Police.
According to EFE, they were all tested for Covid-19.
Four were confirmed as having the virus and were taken to Santa Lucía hospital.
Another eight will have to ‘isolate’ in accommodation provided by the government.
