Moonlit walks in the great outdoors
Free guided tours to experience the views and sounds of the lakes of La Mata-Torrevieja natural park by night have returned for the summer.
Every Monday and Friday in July and August, the ‘A la luz de la luna’ (by the light of the moon) tours will be setting off at 20.30 from the park visitors centre.
Participants will spend three and a half to four hours finding out fascinating facts about the great environmental heritage of one of the Valencia region’s most important wetlands.
The routes are adapted so that anybody can take part and enjoy a fun evening together, explained the town hall.
It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing, hiking shoes or trainers, and bring food and water, as well as a torch and a hat.
There are 44 places per tour and advance registration is required, either at the website www.turismodetorrevieja.com/ecorutas or the Tourist info office on the Paseo Vista Alegre, or call 96 570 34 33.
There will be a total of 18 of these night tours this summer and bookings are now being taken for those in July.
ORIHUELA
Meanwhile Orihuela is offering its own night tours in July and August, to reveal the most distinctive and picturesque spots in the city, and curious details about them.
These are also free and start at 20.30 every Thursday, with 20 places available for each excursion.
They include the Palmeral palm tree plantations (the second largest in Europe after Elche) on July 9, the historic quarter on July 16, the city’s cultural heritage on July 23, and its Andalucían legacy on July 30.

Orihuela also announced night tours on Fridays and Saturdays, starting with one of the city’s monuments on July 3 and 4.
This is followed by one about Civil War poet Miguel Hernández on July 10 and 11, the reconquest on July 17 and 18, Orihuela’s legends on July 24 and 25, and the River Segura on July 31, followed by more in August.
These cost €5 each and include a tasting of traditional dishes at the end.

SAN FULGENCIO
Finally, San Fulgencio town hall has announced the first of its ‘Vive la Naturaleza’ (live the nature) tours
This will be a tour of the Barranco de la Escuera ravine, including a visit to the archaeological site of La Escuera, this Saturday, July 4, from 18.30 until approximately 22.00.
It is a 6km, low-difficulty route suitable for ages seven and up, starting from Calle Andalucía by the Aqua Park in La Marina urbanisation.
These tours will be carried out by a company specialising in quality and professional nature tourism experiences, explained the town hall.
They will explain, in Spanish and English, both the environmental heritage and the enhancement of the cultural heritage during the route.
