Teulada-Moraira Fishing Club

-

W e hav e, at last, been able to g o fishing ag ain following the easing of trav el restrictions. T hroug hout the lock down due to the coronav irus the R io J ucar had been closed and, ev en if it had been open, we would not hav e been able to trav el to it as the riv er is in the prov ince of V alencia and we are in A licante prov ince. I am not sure who was most reliev ed when fishing resumed, the ang lers or their partners, who could once ag ain enjoy a day of peace and tranq uillity!

A s it is so close to the end of our summer leag ue and in the interests of maintaining social distancing we decided not to fish competitiv e matches but only to pleasure fish. H owev er, I thoug ht it may interest readers to k now how the fishing isgoing,

It was with childish anticipation that we prepared for our first session for three months. E x pectations were hig h that the fish would be feeling hung ry after so long a period without the food supplied by ang lers and I am pleased to report that this seems to be the case, judg ing from our first two outing s.

W e hav e fished B section as access to the bank here is easiest for all our members. A round a doz en or so members hav e fished on both occasions. O n the first session, the majority fished B 2 with a small g roup fishing the v ery end of B 3 . T hose who opted for B 3 had a slig htly better day but all ang lers landed fish with an av erag e catch of about fiv e fish which was a sig nificant improv ement on before the lock down. T he end two peg s on B 3 produced the best catches of the day with F rank P ov ey netting fifteen carp with the best being ov er 6 k g . O n the nex t peg G raham S ewell landed nine, his best being 5 k g . A lso in this area M alcolm hunt had a lov ely mirror carp, which we don’t see so often. H owev er, the person who seemed most pleased was one of our new members, A lan S mith, who, althoug h he only landed two fish, as he is learning the methods which seem to prov e successful on the J ucar, was delig hted as both were g ood q uality fish.

O n our second session ev eryone fished around B 2 . A g ain it was a successful day for ev eryone with some g ood q uality fish being landed. G raham S ewell landed the hig hest total of fifteen.

M any, in fact, I would say the majority of fish, hav e been tak en fishing close in to the near bank whereas prev iously the best catches came by targ eting the far bank . T his may be because the fish hav e dispersed more widely throug hout the riv er during the time when the riv er has been closed.

L et us hope that the fishing continues to be as successful in the coming week s.

W e are a v ery friendly club and are always happy to welcome new members. A nyone without match fishing ex perience will be g iv en assistance and adv ice from our more ex perienced members.
