Only one patient has died from Covid-19 in the last week

WHILE confinement of the population has been ordered again in several areas of Spain due to coronavirus flare-ups, the Valencia region has escaped any return to these restrictive measures.

The region is suffering flareups but – to date – these are being contained, according to the regional government.

Councillor for health Ana Barceló reported that eight different mini-outbreaks are under investigation in the provinces of Castellón and Valencia – none of them in Alicante province.

The largest flare-up in the region has occurred in Castellón city, in which 31 people have contracted Covid-19 since it was discovered nearly two weeks ago.

Sr Barceló noted that they are testing people who have been in contact with the patients and no new cases had been found in recent days.

In the outbreak which occurred in a company based in Rafelbunyol – discovered two weeks ago – ‘we are continuing to do PCR tests to ensure that no one who shared common workplace zones with the infected people have caught the virus’.

A case related to one family in Burjassot has not produced any more infections.

“In the municipality of Llíria we have detected three cases which correspond to the same family who have been isolated in their own home,” noted Sra Barceló.

Health department officials have carried out a number of tests after a justice department official came down with Covid19 but no more cases have been detected.

Additionally, two drop-in shelters have been affected – one in Valencia city with four cases and another in Cullera with three.

Sr Barceló added that five members of the same family in Valencia have also tested positive.

Regional figures

A total of 16 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the

Valencia region on Wednesday.

Councillor for health Ana Barceló noted that two of these were in Castellón province, five in Alicante province, eight in Valencia – and one case ‘had not yet been assigned’.

The councillor added that there are 288 ‘active’ cases of coronavirus in Valencia region at the moment – down from the 306 recorded last Wednesday (July 1).

The number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in hospital in the region remains the same as last Wednesday and still stands at 53 – seven of them in Castellón, 18 in Alicante (down seven on last week) and 28 in Valencia.

The number of patients being treated in intensive care in the region is down from seven to four – all of them in hospitals in Alicante province.

One patient has died from Covid-19 in the last week in Valencia region, with the total death toll now standing at 1,476. Sra Barceló noted that the figures are ‘encouraging, but we have to continue being cautious’.
