Railway upgrades roll on

Multi-million investment for Tram line between Dénia and Benidorm

THE REGIONAL government continues to pledge millions of euros of investment to upgrade the coastal railway between Benidorm and Dénia.

Line 9 of the Tram d’Alicant network - which is popular with both commuters and visitors to the Costa Blanca - is part of the Valencia government’s vision for sustainabl­e public transport.

The stations between Benidorm and the Dénia terminus are all to be upgraded to remodel platforms and improve accessibil­ity.

The cost of the Line 9 improvemen­ts and part of the network south of Benidorm on Line 1 is more than €11.2 million.

NATIONAL Police in Benidorm arrested a 36-year-old male of Montenegri­n nationalit­y following an undercover surveillan­ce operation.

The service, run by the regional railway company FGV, will be fully reopened with six new dual-drive diesel and electric trains from manufactur­er Stadler - an investment of over €43.3 million. The rolling stock will feature state of the art communicat­ion and safety features for passengers and was chosen for its ‘reliabilit­y and comfort’.

The current trains require elevated access at stations, whereas the new vehicles have lower platforms suitable for ‘low floor’ access and can operate as a convention­al train and as a tram.

A spokesman for FGV said the regional government was carrying out ‘different technical fired during a robbery at a betting shop killed an innocent bystander at the premises.
