Disappearing nature trails

-

Benidorm

July 7 Now we are allowed to roam around more freely I’m happy to be back enjoying nature trails inland of our Benidorm apartment. We have always enjoyed the trails around La Nucía because they are well signposted and there are clear marks along the route, but since the end of our enclosure we have been disappointed to see several of these paths have now ‘disappeared’ because of new buildings or similar developments. The main red route we follow that goes around the back of the Camilo Cano sports centre has had several sections ‘cut-off’ due to new buildings or car parks have being built and to our surprise a huge section of pine forest has been obliterated too. We don’t know if this is because of further building or that damn tree disease that you have reported on before (some call it tree ebola but that would make it a virus when I am told it’s a bacteria, as I remember you have reported before). I would like to know if this is the case and if it is spreading in the area. I can’t remember you reporting this in your newspaper (maybe this is scoop for you!). And while I’m asking, could we get these lovely routes either redesigned and updated on the official map I always look up on the panels around the town?

Dear Sir

We reported on the felling of the trees several weeks ago. The Xylella Fastidiosa bacteria has nothing to do with it in this case. We were informed by the town hall that the trees were cut down as part of sanctioned landscaping to allow for the future building of a large soccer city complex with several fields. As for the redesigning of the routes, we will pass your suggestion on to the relevant town hall office, in the meantime, happy trekking in other areas.
