Musical celebration at Dénia care home
Last Friday was a very special day for the 120 residents of the municipal retirement home in Sta Lucía in Dénia.
The home management and the staff had prepared an event to celebrate one thing above all: not a single coronavirus infection had occurred in this care home so far! This success was due not only to the excellent care and support provided by the home management and nursing staff, but also to the decision taken very early on not to allow any more visits to the residence.
Thus, at least in this senior citizens' residence in Dénia, the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, which is especially dangerous for seniors, has been prevented up until now.
At 18.00 all residents and staff gathered in the entrance hall of the building and were able to look out from there, with the appropriate safety distances, onto the stage set up outside and enjoy an entertaining musical evening.
The event manager Stefanie Wiczinowski had invited various artists for this benefit concert: The duo Bonizana (the Cuban singer and pianist Lellany Lizana and the lyricist Paco Bonilla) presented their new compositions entitled 'Ya no soy yo mismo'. The wellknown Spanish songs from the 40s and 50s from the residents' wish list were performed by the Spanish singer Mamen Ripoll from Jávea and the new duo NJOY with the German singer Stefanie Wiczinowski from Dénia and the DJ and singer Randy Shadowman with Jamaican roots from
Benidorm completed the program with popular English language songs from the 60s and 70s.
At the beginning of the evening it became clear what traces the pandemic has left on these elderly people. Many of them hardly dared to leave the building, but as the evening progressed, a cheerful mood increasingly arose and there was a lot of dancing, clapping, laughing and singing along with the carers and artists.
The organisers and all participants were very happy that after such a long time in confinement such a nice celebration for all was possible. Around 20.00 all the residents retreated to their rooms and will hopefully remember this beautiful summer evening full of music and joy for a long time to come.
Another, bigger charity event in September/October, is planned where relatives and external visitors can be invited.
