Las Ramblas Golf

-

Week June 29

Hold the front page! In a rarely played format Monday saw a new all-time record set when Lindsay Forbes, John Dobson and John and Ellen Drakesmith scored 107 points in the best 2 scores from 4 to count but with all recorded on holes 1,9,10 and 18. The previous record, dating back to 2015, was 100 points. However, that was on the Las Ramblas course so maybe that should stay in the record books? We’ll have to let the jury decide. With 105 points John Shervell, Mike Brentnall, Graham Murray and Anne Marie Weisheit would have also have beaten the previous best!

Wednesday’s individual stableford saw some quite incredible scores. Mike Brentnall continued his recent run of good form and took 1st place with an amazing 46 (yes 46!) points. Say goodbye to your handicap Mike! A score like that was more than enough to leave our very own ‘Lone Ranger’ Graham Murray in 3rd but still he still managed 42 points! In 2nd spot it was Graham’s wife, Petina, with 43 points, which on any other day would have been a winning score.

I’m pleased to report I was finally part of a winning team in Friday’s 1-2-3 Waltzer. Alongside Terry Field, Mike Mahoney and Paul Brown we managed 92 points. Close, but not close enough, on 90, were Mark Western, Joyce McClusky, John Dobson

and the fictional Albert.

This week’s words of wisdom are supplied by Henry Beard who remarked, ‘Play it as it lies is one of the fundamental dictates of golf. The other is wear it if it clashes.’

Por ultimo, our best wishes to Reg Akehurst who celebrated his 91st birthday recently.
