A TOTAL of 23 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the Valencia region on Wednesday.

At the same time councillor for health Ana Barceló noted that there have been no deaths from the coronavirus in the region for eight days – and the total death toll for Valencia since the pandemic began remains at 1,476.

There has been one death in the last two weeks.

Speaking about the new cases, Sra Barceló explained that three of these were in Alicante province, 15 in Valencia province and five in Castellón.

She noted that currently there are 299 active cases in the Valencia region – which is 11 more than at the same time last week.

The number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in hospitals in the region has gone up from 53 on July 8 to 67 this Wednesday (July 15), with 17 in Alicante province, 18 in Castellón province and 32 in Valencia.

The number of patients being treated in intensive care units remains at four – two in Alicante province (down by two) and two in Valencia (+2).

Flare-ups

Sra Barceló reported an outbreak with 10 cases in Gandía in Valencia province.

She noted that it started ‘in a family environment’ and had spread to their social contacts.

“All the patients’ contacts are being traced so that they can be tested,” she said.

In the second flare-up reported in Santa Pola, she noted a total of four employees of the same business have now tested positive following a ‘company meal’.

On Wednesday a total of 60 more Covid-19 patients were given the all clear, taking the number of people who have recovered from the virus in the Valencia region to 17,499.

Marina Alta

A second new case of Covid19 was detected in the Marina Alta – this time a patient in Pedreguer on Friday (July 10). The district had gone 40 days without any new diagnoses when, last week, it was reported that a person living in Dénia had tested positive.

Dénia has seen one of the lowest Covid-19 counts out of all the region's healthcare catchment areas, but the authorities have warned residents not to become complacent.
